The Big Picture, and this photo was in particular in a series of photos on latest updates and activity from Afghanistan. The cutline spoke on how an Afghan female police officer was receiving paramilitary training, in hopes the extra training will cut down the death rate in the force and raise security (sounds like something the police in Mexico could use against the cartels).
I was just struck by how powerful this photo was because once upon a time, not too long ago, it was never imagined that a woman could hold a gun and be in a position of power, thanks to the Taliban's reign. And now, women can hold positions as such. I have to wonder if she faces ridiculing or danger for being a female police officer . . .
